Session 11: Mandalas

We won’t go too deep into the meanings of mandalas, except that they are used in meditation. Have you ever stared up at the ceiling and imagined pictures in the swirls of plaster? I did as a kid, and it’s very relaxing. I don’t remember what was going on in my head at the time, but it was comforting to know they were always there. We are going to create our own special pictures that will always be there when we need to center our thoughts.

Gather up beads, tiny toys or other junk and a canvas or just a piece of cardboard or a paper plate. Arrange the items from the center out and create patterns, kind of like what you’d see in a kaleidoscope. It doesn’t have to be permanent like mine. You can even use food like cereal or candy! Take a picture of it when you’re done so that you can look at it when you need it. If you choose the gluing option, use hot glue. (You can paint it if you want, but it will take several days, not an hour)
